S & L Centre
STOKE PARK SPEECH AND LANGUAGE CENTRE
Stoke Park Speech and Language Centre is a purpose built, fully resourced and fully-staffed Speech and Language Unit which is located within Stoke Park Infant School.
The Centre is a resourced provision for Hampshire which currently supports 14 children with speech and language impairment all of whom are on the roll of the Infant or the Junior School at Stoke Park. All referrals are made through Hampshire County Council and it is through them that our placements are made. Stoke Park Infant and Stoke Park Junior Schools are fully committed to the effective inclusion of the children from the Speech and Language Centre, where integration and independence of the children is paramount.
Children are supported within their classrooms and, also benefit from the further support and teaching that they receive from the Speech and Language Centre, where children receive the support of a team who specialise in speech and language development and use resources to re-enforce programmes of work.
Stoke Park Speech and Language Centre is managed by a Centre Manager, with a team of learning support assistants. In addition, part time specialist Speech and Language Therapists works with the team.
The provision that we provide, enables pupils in the Speech and Language Centre to have access to the curriculum and, in addition, they receive regular therapy to meet their specific needs. The aim of the Centre and the schools is to provide a successful balance between the time that the children spend in the Centre, and, support within their mainstream classes. It is important that all children have the opportunity to take part in all school activities and that the children’s contributions are valued and their achievements are recognised. The partnership between the Speech and Language Centre and both schools is continuously developing in order to meet the children’s very specific needs.
