Intent

Our aim is for all children to leave school with a rich and creative art journal of which they are proud and one which exemplifies the progress and choices they have made. We aim to engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the artistic knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. Furthermore,  for all children to develop resilience and enable their creativity, imagination and expression to blossom to its full potential. We believe and promote the importance of art and design to the emotional well-being of all our children.

Implementation

We provide all children with a wide-range of artistic experiences, not only within the subject of art and design, but also integrated within and across the curriculum. Children are provided with the knowledge and skills required to experiment confidently and have the opportunity to explore and evaluate different creative ideas. Children will be introduced to a range of famous artists and their works of art in order to provide a source of inspiration when creating their own pieces of  art, craft and design.

Our whole school curriculum provides all children with opportunities to develop their skills in art using a range of media and materials. The curriculum develops skills in drawing, painting, printing, collage, textiles, sculpture, which are in line with the outcomes of the National Curriculum. To ensure high standards of teaching and learning, we implement a progressive curriculum of skills/knowledge within and across year groups.

Impact

At Stoke Park Junior School our aim is to ensure that all children have the opportunity to succeed, through being given a choice in their learning outcomes.  We want all children to enjoy the subject and love what they do within it. Children will leave the junior school with great experiences in art and design. As a result our children are able to consider opportunities to use their skills and knowledge in their future, either personally, vocationally or professionally.

Stoke Park Junior School work with local wood sculptor

We were lucky enough to be involved with a local wood sculptor, who made wooden sculptures from our children's designs. These designs are now on display in Stoke Park Woods. This was an amazing opportunity to see our school value of Engagement in action.
