Pastoral

At Stoke Park Junior School we see the social, emotional and mental health of all our pupils as a priority.

We have a highly skilled and experienced team, who are trained in specific areas of pastoral support.

We are pleased to be able to offer our pupils the opportunity to talk things through with a trusted adult, should they wish. All discussions are confidential, unless your child may be at the risk of harm. In which case, information will be acted upon and shared, in accordance with our normal safeguarding practice.

Referrals may come from a variety of sources, including school staff. Parental support is always sought before the sessions begin. As all sessions are based on the specific needs of the child they are not formally tracked.

ELSA - Emotional Literacy Support

Our staff have completed specialist training for Education Psychologists, in order to support the emotional development of our pupils.

At Stoke Park Junior School, we offer a large number of support pupils with anxiety, anger-management, bereavement, friendships and self-esteem. Class teachers and Teaching Assistants are often the first members of staff a child may speak to about their worries, therefore following a meeting with parents or carers a referral and initial meeting allows a baseline assessment to be made of the child's specific needs.

Teachers, Teaching Assistants and ELSAs work closely to ensure the target and application of the learnt skills from the ELSA sessions are transferred back into the classroom and playground.

TALA - Therapeutic Active Listening Assistant (previously known as FIEPS)

These one to one sessions with a trained member of staff, provide pupils with the a child led discussion facilitated by the adult, using recognised approaches. Children explore their feelings and are encouraged to find their own solutions and develop their own resilience to deal with future events and challenges.
