ART Vision Statement

Every child is an artist.

The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.

A Stoke Park artist is:

-Creative

- Skilled

-Confident to experiment

-Resilient

-Reflective

Intent

  • Our aim is for all children to leave school with a richly creative Art journal of which they are proud and one which exemplifies the progress and choices they have made.
  • We aim to engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the artistic knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design.
  • Our curriculum enables children to become skilled at drawing, painting, sculpture and all forms of art, craft and design.
  • Furthermore, for the children develop resilience and enable their creativity, imagination and expression to blossom to their full potential.
  • As we engage with great artists, craft makers in different cultures and throughout history, students analyse working using the language of art.
  • We also believe how important Art and Design can be in the emotional well-being of children.

Implementation

In order to do this, we will provide all children with a wide-range of artistic experiences, not only within the subject of Art and Design, but also integrated across the curriculum.

Children are provided with the knowledge and skills needed to experiment confidently in the subject and have the opportunity to explore and evaluate different creative ideas.

As well as develop individual creativity, the children will be introduced to famous artists and their works of art to provide a source of inspiration. This will ensure that they are engaged, inspired and challenged when creating their own works of art, craft and design.

Our whole school curriculum provides children with opportunities to develop their skills in art using a range of media and materials. The curriculum develops skills in drawing, painting, printing, collage, textiles and sculpture in line with the outcomes of the National Curriculum.

To ensure high standards of teaching and learning in Art and Design, we implement a curriculum that is progressive throughout the whole school. The progression document ensures the curriculum is covered and the skills/knowledge taught is progressive from year group to year group.

Impact

At Stoke Park Junior School, we aim to ensure that all children have the opportunity to succeed and that they are being given choice in their learning outcomes.  We want children to enjoy the subject and love what they do within it. Children will leave the junior school with great experiences in Art and Design. As a result, they will consider opportunities to use these skills in their future, whether in a vocational or professional way.

Stoke Park Junior School work with local wood sculptor

We were lucky enough to be involved with a local wood sculptor, who made wooden sculptures from our children's designs. These designs are now on display in Stoke Park Woods. This was an amazing opportunity to see our school value of Engagement in action.
